Department of Education has started distributing SIM cards with connectivity load last month to its teaching and non- teaching personnel. This iniative is part of Bayanihan 2 Act. The personnel are asked to register first at depedconnect.com.ph before claiming their card.

I got my SIM card last July 30, 2021. If you have not claimed yours yet, you need to show two (2) valid IDs and your QR code that was sent to your personal email.
Here's how the SIM package looks like.
Smart is the mobile load service provider in this initiative. The cover shows the mobile number, ICCID, bar codes, and expiration date. The SIM card is 5G ready and it is triple cut. What triple cut means? The SIM card has regular, micro, and nano cut features. The package states that upon activation, you will receive free 1 gigabyte Internet data. There is a warning for everyone who receive the card. It is not for sale.

In this blog entry, I am going to document how I activated it. I accompanied the steps with pictures and screenshots.
1. Download GigaLife app. If you are Android phone user, download it from Google Play Store and install it. It is also available for IPhone users. I am using the app for months and I do have good experience about it. If you have Smart/ Talk N' Text/ and PLDT numbers, you can connect these to the app and it can give you reward points. You may register for Giga offers/ promos and you can double the Internet data.
2. Unpack the SIM. If you are planning to use the SIM through your phone, select the cut. In my case, I opted to use it on my smartphone, so I chose nano cut.
3. Change the SIM settings if you have two SIM cards inside your phone. Choose the Smart SIM as default mobile data.
4. Turn on Mobile data. Then, proceed to GigaLife app. Press Get Started.
5. Sign up for your account. Input your desired password. In creating your password, you must observe the following: 8- 20 characters, at least one capital letter, at least one lowercase letter, at least one number, no punctuation marks, and no spaces. The app will warn you if the password did not meet the criteria. Once done, click the Sign Up button.
6. A PIN will be sent to the cellphone number. You need to encode the four- digit PIN to proceed.
7. Accept the GigaLife App's Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy by the ticking the boxes. Once finished, click I Accept button.
Here is how the app dashboard looks like.
Upon signing up, you will claim 100 MB free data and 10 reward points. The app will show you that you are subscribed to DepEd 349.
8. To know the data allocation of the promo, press Check Usage. The DepEd Plan 349 has 34 GB monthly data allowance, 1.02 GB Study Anywhere, and 4.10 GB Shareable Data.
If you cannot consume the monthly data, it will be added to the next month. As a School ICT Coordinator, it is a great blessing for me as I have more data to do more. It will be also a great help for reaching out our students once the classes for the next school year started.
Pick up now your SIM and activate it. If you encounter problems, connect to your School ICT Coordinator and School Property Custodian.

ReplyDeleteHello sir, due to my confidence na madali lng naman mag activate ng sim dahil nagawa ko na sa aking sim, i activated the deped sim of my wife nang di naka turned on ang data... I did the process through wifi connections, successful naman may display naman sa application na subscribed to deped 349... Do i need to worry about it?
