Fourth Principle of Speech Writing: Outlining and Organizing the Speech Content

In the previous lesson, you learned the sources of information you can use in writing your speech. After collecting the data you needed to discuss your chosen topic, it is now time to organize them. As a speaker, it is a challenge to get the attention of your audience and make them listen up to the end. So, an organized speech can help you to achieve this.
Outlining is the process undertaken in arranging content. An outline is the ordered list of points you want to emphasize in your speech. By doing this, you can work on the important ideas you to want to focus on. One of the ways of outlining is through following the parts of the structure of a speech: introduction, body, and conclusion.
Introduction contains the main idea or thesis statement of your speech. The body of a speech contains supporting details such as definitions and explanations that can help you defend your position or explain the main thought of your writing. The conclusion summarizes the speech and it restates the main idea or thesis statement.
To start with your outlining, you can use numbers, letters, bullets in enumerating or listing ideas. You can also adopt topic outline or sentence outline.
Let us begin your speech writing. You can use the format below or refer to the speech writing tool sheet I distributed.
