The Department of Education (DepEd) reminds all its personnel to respect the Philippine National Anthem when played to all online events conducted by the department. In the issued Office of the Undersecretary for Administration (OUA) Memoradum 00-0821-0247, the largest bureaucracy gives instructions on what to do when Lupang Hinirang is played in virtual programs. The said memorandum was released to address the confusion on whether one should sit or stand when the national anthem is played during online sessions, webinars, and meetings. Everyone must stand and execute a salute by placing right palm over the left chest.
DepEd is also encouraging the learners, teachers, and parents are encouraged to do the same during online classes and when watching or listening to DepEd TV or DepEd Radio. Based on the Republic Act 8491 or the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines, utmost reverence must be given to the national flag, anthem, and other national symbols.
