DepEd issues school calendar for SY 2020-2021


The Department of Education released last Thursday the school calendar for school year 2020-2021. The digital copy of DepEd Order No. 29, s. 2021 was posted on the department's Facebook page. The said document entails dates of opening and ending of classes, enrollment, and various activities of the bureaucracy. 

The start of classes for the public elementary and high schools is on September 13, 2021 which was approved by President Rodrigo Duterte. The classes shall end on June 24, 2022. There will be 209 school days for the new academic year. Private schools may start classes earlier. 

Furthermore, the order stated that Brigada Eskwela and Oplan Balik Eskwela shall be conducted by the schools to prepare for the next school year. On the other hand, enrollment in schools to start on August 16, 2021 and will end on September 13, 2021. The department shall release guidelines about the enrollment procedures. 

Distance learning will still be implemented as face-to-face learning is not yet allowed due to the COVID-19. The Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan will still be utilized to protect the learners, teachers, and other school personnel from the pandemic. 

Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) are going to be used in providing instruction. For the assessment procedures, schools shall follow DepEd Order No. 31, s. 2020 known as Interim Guidelines for Assessment and Grading in Light of the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan.
